Students can earn from 3 to 6 unit credits for project(s) based on their Peace Corps service. The University will waive registration fees for students while in Peace Corps. Students are eligible for university, college, and departmental fellowships, scholarships, and assistantships on a competitive basis.

Description

The University of Florida offers a Master of Science degree through the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences in several fields of study, including Agricultural Education and Communication, Agronomy, Animal Science, Entomology and Nematology, Food and Resource Economics, Forest Resources and Conservation, Horticultural Sciences, Plant Pathology, and Soil and Water Sciences. Most departments require between 30 and 35 credit hours to complete the Master of Science program. Coursework is designed to provide a broad based agricultural or natural resource background to participate in their Peace Corps experience. This could also include language training. Students will typically be on campus for 8-10 months (2 to 3 academic semesters) prior to Peace Corps deployment. Upon completion of their Peace Corps service, students will return to campus to complete their coursework and a project based on their Peace Corps assignment. A comprehensive oral exam by the supervisory committee is also required for most departments and will be taken in the semester prior to graduation.

Requirements

Admission to graduate studies at UF is a collaborative process involving the graduate faculty of the academic unit, the Office of Admissions and the Graduate School. Each academic department has a graduate coordinator who provides detailed information about entry requirements, research opportunities and resources. Students must have a recognized baccalaureate degree with a minimum grade point average of B (3.0) for upper level coursework and a Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score of 1000. Most departments also require a written statement of purpose and letters of recommendation.
