Benefits

Peace Corps Fellows will receive a minimum annual scholarship of $12,000 which will be renewable for their second year of study. Additionally, Fellows will receive special support from the Center for Advising and Career Services for internship placement and career placement.

Description

The Monterey Institute of International Studies, a graduate school of Middlebury College, provides international professional education in areas of critical importance to a rapidly changing global community. We prepare students from all over the world to make a meaningful impact in their chosen fields through degree programs characterized by immersive and collaborative learning, and opportunities to acquire and apply practical professional skills. Our students are emerging leaders capable of bridging cultural, organizational, and language divides to produce sustainable, equitable solutions to a variety of global challenges. The Monterey Institute has designed 5 Master of Arts programs for Paul D. Coverdell Peace Corps Fellows. These M.A. programs cover the fields of international development, human rights, conflict resolution, environmental policy, sustainable development, international trade, international business, and language teaching. As a school dedicated to service, the Monterey Institute has partnered hundreds of organizations world-wide, as well as with over 40 local organizations. These local partnerships allow Fellows to integrate an internship into their degree, enhancing their academic experience while serving the community.

Application Form & Fee
Statement of Purpose and Resume
Your statement of purpose should explain who you are, including your motivations for pursuing graduate studies and future academic or career objectives. Your resume should highlight your educational background and professional experience.

Undergraduate Transcripts
Official transcripts should be sent directly to the Admissions office in a sealed envelopes from all academic institutions attended. If your school does not provide original transcripts, we will accept certified copies.

2 Letters of Recommendation
Two letters of recommendation should be written by individuals qualified to evaluate your educational background and professional experiences.

Description of Service
Please supply a copy of your official Description of Service with your application to the Monterey Institute.

Language Proficiency
IPS, IEP, MPA and MBA students are required to complete 12 credits of advanced foreign language study as part of their degree program.

For successful admission students must be ready to begin their language studies at the following level:

• Spanish or Arabic - ready to start at the second-year college level.
• Chinese, French, Japanese or Russian - ready to start at the third-year college level.

Micro- and Macro-economics Prerequisite (Policy, MPA, & IEP)
While completed coursework in economics is not a requirement to apply to the Monterey Institute, some programs may require economics coursework to complete core requirements.

Standardized Test Scores
Graduate Record Examination (GRE). GRE scores are not required, but applicants are encouraged to submit GRE scores for admission consideration.
