Students may earn up to 9 credit hours for Peace Corps service. The Master of Science (M.S.) in International Development Studies program is a 30-unit program designed to provide advanced studies and in-depth knowledge in the fundamentals of agriculture, plant science, as well as experimental design, technical writing, and formal presentation of research.

Coursework provides a broad understanding of crop production and physiology, and thesis research allows for specialization. Areas of specialization include agronomy, pomology, horticulture, weed science, entomology, plant pathology, soils and irrigation, and mechanized agriculture.

Description

The Master's in International Development Studies will provide students with both a strong academic background and practical experience in plant science and production agriculture. Courses offered will integrate physiology, soils and nutrition, cultural practices, and plant health to provide students with a well-balanced background for positions in plant science, crop production, soil sciences, and plant health management/pest control.

In addition, courses in areas such as micropropagation, plant propagation, crop improvement, and aspects of crop productivity can provide students with a background for further studies in plant biotechnology.

The course will consist of a minimum of 30 credit hours, depending on the program pursued. The degree program will consist of 4 semesters of academic study.

• Written statement of goals and reasons for applying to the Peace Corps MI program.
