The Geography MS degree provides graduates with an excellent background in natural resource-related and environmental issues, as well as in research and management approaches.

MI students in the Geography master's degree program focus coursework in one of three areas of interest that intersect with their Peace Corps service: Sustainable Livelihoods and Community Development, Social and Development Aspects of Natural Resource Management, and Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Analysis.

Aside from financial aid, MI students will be eligible for all university scholarships and fellowships, as well as any appropriate departmental or college research assistantships and college scholarships and fellowships. Students will receive 9 credits for Peace Corps service.

Description

The Department of Environment and Society, in the College of Natural Resources, offers a Master of Science degree in Geography. The degree requires a minimum 30 credits (most students take more than 30 credits), with 12 of those credits in geography.

Plan A (thesis) or plan B (project) options available. For the Peace Corps option within the Geography MS, students take a set of core courses and select a topical area of interest among three options (Sustainable Livelihoods and Community Development, Social and Development Aspects of Natural Resource Management, and Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Analysis).

Within the selected interest area, students should take at least two approved courses. Any additional electives are selected with the approval and guidance of the student's faculty advisor and supervisory committee.

Requirements

Admissions requirements follow the general requirements established by Utah State University's School of Graduate Studies:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent
• 3.0 or higher GPA on applicant's last 60 semester
• Score at or above the 40th percentile on appropriate admissions test (GRE or other defined by the degree program)
• Three satisfactory letters of recommendation
