Participants benefit from a diverse offering of coursework in environmental and sustainability studies, and students can earn up to 6 credit hours as part of their Peace Corps experience.

Description

The Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources, & Design offers Master of Science degrees in Ag & Resource Economics, Design & Merchandising, Forestry, Plant & Soil Sciences, Recreation, Parks & Tourism, and Wildlife & Fisheries. Thesis and non-thesis option degrees are available. All students work directly with a faculty advisor in their field of interest to develop coursework options and a research project.

The vision of the WVU-PCMI program is to prepare graduate students with the advanced coursework, research experience, and professional guidance needed to succeed in Peace Corps service and in careers related to environmental science and policy, forestry and natural resource management, and sustainable development.

Requirements

Acceptance into the PC MI program will vary depending on the degree program selected. However, successful applicants will tend to share the following characteristics:

• BA or BS from an accredited university or college.
• An undergraduate degree related to Environmental and/or Sustainability Studies (includes lots of degrees).
• An undergraduate GPA > 3.0.
• A GRE score > 1000 (verbal + quantitative combined).
• A interest in the environment and community service.

Coursework requirements for non-thesis option degrees: 9 hours of core courses (statistics, sustainability, and leadership); 18 hours of approved electives (courses vary depending on student interests and degree selected); 3 hours of research (with an approved problem paper); 6 hours internship earned through Peace Corps service for a total of 36 credit hours.

Coursework requirements for thesis option degrees: 9 hours of core courses (statistics, sustainability, and leadership); 9 hours of approved electives (courses vary depending on student interests and degree selected); 6 hours of research (with an approved research thesis); 6 hours internship earned through Peace Corps service for a total of 30 credit hours.
