"As a deaf Volunteer, I became a good role model showing both the hearing and deaf Kenyans that deaf people are capable of going to University and becoming a doctor or farmer or scientist or president.

I remember sixty parents showed up for a one week Kenyan sign language workshop; none of them knew any sign language. By the end of the week, all of them knew how to communicate the basics with their children. A week after this workshop, one of my students came up to me and said: 'Guess what? My mom couldn't communicate with me and now she can!'"
