A Peace Corps Response Volunteer Provides HIV/AIDS-Related Assistance in Malawi
Rick Fendrick from Vadito, New Mexico, served as a Peace Corps Response Volunteer in Malawi where he provided technical assistance and training to local counterparts in HIV-related issues, such as home-based care, nutrition, community mobilization, and orphan care. Having served in Sierra Leone from 1980--1982, Rick was looking for an opportunity to return to Africa. He believes his past experience in Africa allowed him to better understand the systems that support HIV/AIDS prevention and enabled him to effectively use his knowledge of the region to help its people.
