50th Anniversary

Help us celebrate 50 years of Peace Corps at the following events and exhibitions. We'll continue to add more events and information as the 50th anniversary approaches.

Highlights*

  • Peace Corps Digital Library

The Peace Corps has created an expandable, searchable digital collection of Peace Corps materials, including key Peace Corps historical documents and images, as well as photos and stories contributed by current and former Volunteers. This rich collection is accessible via the Digital Library section of the Peace Corps website, where contributions can be made directly online. This project will continue as a permanent tribute to our anniversary and history.

  • Peace Corps Educational Outreach

    Beginning in 2010

Peace Corps is developing a documentary video, publications and a traveling exhibit that will tell the Peace Corps story to audiences throughout the United States. Peace Corps regional recruiting offices, local, and national Peace Corps alumnae groups are planning special events.

  • Kennedy Service Awards at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum

    March 2011
    Boston, Mass.

Tribute to first Volunteers, next generation of Volunteers, and to those who have helped promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans.

  • Country Activities, Tributes, and Volunteer Projects

    Throughout 2011

Most of our 76 current Peace Corps countries will celebrate their individual and unique associations and history with the Peace Corps and will highlight the many projects hosted by communities and facilitated by Volunteers.

  • College and University Celebrations

    Throughout 2010-2011

Over 3,000 colleges and universities have helped support the Peace Corps throughout its history, including the more than 100 schools currently offering Peace Corps-related Fellows and Masters International university programs.

Schools are stating an interest in sponsoring seminars and programs linking the historical and current significance of the Peace Corps – its impact and lessons for today and the future. Themes under consideration for these events relate to national and international service, and its importance to schools and local and global communities.

The first program will be the University of Michigan’s week of faculty and student activities and events in October 2010 celebrating JFK’s speech announcing the Peace Corps.
